My work

Here is some images of some of my past work. They aren't to professional standards but i'm please at how they are for the age and experience i have.

Parasol, inspired by 18th century fashion and the print was inspired by William Morris.

Here I made this dressing gown out of old duvet sets.
I made it simply to gain more ready made pattern experience and become more independent.

Creating a Pocket

So I've decided to make some blogs about little construction techniques I'll be learning throughout my course. It helps me keep a log of things and also give others a chance to learn new skills and the same level i am.

Pocket.

1. So i traced round the pattern block that the uni provided me, you'll be able to create one from books or even be able to buy one on the internet.

2. After cutting out the first piece I carefully over-locked the trim. Remember to leave the balance marks with the tailor chalk when tracing around the pattern block. The balance marks remind you where to fold over the trim of the pocket.

3.  I Then machine stitched together both sides of the second and third tracing (The flap of the pocket). Don't stitch the top of the lip as then you wont be able to turn it inside out. After stitched, press on the iron for that nice finishing touch.

4. Cut any corners or curves so it will give a nice finished round for when you turn it inside out.

5. Fold down the trim of the sides that you've over locked and also fold where the balance that you've marked off. Press them with an iron so it makes it easier for you to stitch down on your fabric.

6. Take the second part of the pocket and over lock it to give it some finishing edges.
Then stitch it just above the first part of the pocket. (leave more room than i did, my first time went slightly wrong. I've unpicked and redone it)

 7. Fold and press on the iron too give that final touch.

Stitch across the top slightly to keep it in place.

College FMP

So for my college F.M.P (Final Major Project) i created two costumes based around comic books Marvel and DC. Creating costumes is my dream career, I'm currently studying Costume Interpretation at CCAD in Hartlepool.
Here is some images of the final garments.

The Facinator.
I created a Facinator for my villain. It was created from scratch using felt, head block, bias binding and widows vial. I also added rhinestones on the widows vial and around the red bias binding to add a more theatrical effect.

Here is the display for the college show. As you can see my two final garments are on display.
